On July 18th, the 198th Science and Technology Frontier Forum of the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD) and the 19th Science China Information Sciences Frontier Symposium were held at Nanjing University. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the CAS attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Tan Tieniu extended a warm welcome on behalf of NJU to participants at the venue and online. He pointed out that the Science and Technology Frontier Forum of the CASAD has made significant contributions to advancing frontier scientific theories and technological explorations, promoting systematic in-depth development of disciplinary strategic research, fostering interdisciplinary integration, and international academic exchange. It fully demonstrates CASAD's leading role in the forefront of science and technology and future innovative development in our country. The theme of this forum focuses on emerging fields, which is of great significance for serving national strategic needs. The information sciences at NJU has a profound tradition. In recent years, NJU has developed new engineering disciplines on Suzhou campus, further promoting the development and innovation of information sciences. At the same time, as an important force in national artificial intelligence innovation, it not only delves into basic research, achieving several internationally leading results, but also actively promotes technology transfer, supporting the industrial upgrades of Jiangsu's intelligent manufacturing, smart healthcare, and smart cities. He believes that this forum will have a positive and far-reaching impact on the development of information sciences in our country, effectively advancing the innovation and breakthrough of information sciences, and promoting the self-reliance and strength in science and technology.

Lyu Jian, representative of the Information Technology Division of the CAS, pointed out in his speech that information sciences and technology have now become a strategic focus of great-power competition, and humanity is entering an era of intelligent interconnection of everything involving humans, machines, and objects. Under such a background, holding a high-level forum on the frontier of information sciences is of great importance for fully leveraging the advantages of the new national system, adhering to self-reliance, and promoting healthy and orderly development. Science China: Information Sciences as an outstanding representative of the Science China series of journals, closely integrates with the international forefront of science and technology and national development needs, contributing to the self-reliance our country's information technology and industry. He believes that this forum will promote the interdisciplinary integration and high-quality development of information technology.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Mei Hong, editor-in-chief of Science China: Information Sciences and executive chairman of this forum. He stated that combining the Forum with the Science China Information Sciences Frontier Symposium not only continues the successful model but also reflects the CASAD's high regard and strong support for the development of academic journals.

The events were hosted by the CASAD, and organized by the Information Technology Division of the CAS. More than seventy participants attended the forum. The experts focused on building a powerful nation of science and technology, introduced cutting-edge technologies, and provided participants with a deep understanding of the latest trends and developments in information science, also offering important references for research and development in the field of information sciences.
