NJU holds Yangtze River Delta Regional Forum for Young Scholars in German Studies

From June 13 to 15,  NJU School of Foreign Studies held the First Yangtze River Delta Regional Forum for Young Scholars in German Studies, on Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University, focusing on the theme "Exploring New Perspectives and Methods in German Literature Studies". The event brought together experts, scholars, and young educators from universities across the Yangtze River Delta region to explore innovative approaches and future directions for German literature studies in the new era.

The opening ceremony of the forum was chaired by Chen Min, Head of the German Department at the School of Foreign  Studies, Nanjing University. Chen Jing, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Studies, emphasized in her speech the urgent need to explore new paradigms in German literature studies against the backdrop of the digital revolution and interdisciplinary integration, expressing hope that the seminar would inspire innovative thinking. Professor Kong Deming from Nanjing University highlighted the pivotal role of young scholars in preserving academic traditions while expanding research horizons. Professor Wei Yuqing from Fudan University's College of Foreign Languages and Literature approached the theme from an interdisciplinary perspective, noting that the Forum provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the methodologies of literary studies.

The seminar delved into three core topics through in-depth discussions. Three roundtable forums focused on: "Laocoon and AI: Literary Intermediality and Cultural Technology Studies", "Mobility and Permanence: Multidimensional and Multimedia Memory, History, and Identity Construction", and "Looking Back and Forward: Interdisciplinary Theoretical Construction and Methodological Exploration."Each forum approached its theme from different angles, showcasing the deep reflection and exploration of young scholars as they navigated between academic traditions and interdisciplinary innovation. The discussions contributed to the multidimensional expansion and theoretical development of methodologies in German literature studies. At the conclusion of the forum, Wei Yuqing delivered an academic summary, giving high praise to the innovative energy and interdisciplinary perspectives demonstrated by young scholars.

With its fruitful scholarly outcomes and vibrant academic exchanges, this seminar showcased the vitality of young scholars in German studies within the Yangtze River Delta region. It laid a solid foundation for closer collaboration within the regional academic community and the future expansion of German literature studies.
