Dr. Felipe Gándara is a Staff Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), where he leads research in reticular chemistry and porous materials. His work focuses on the design, synthesis, and advanced structural analysis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) for applications in energy and environmentally related fields.

The ability to precisely control the distribution of multiple metal cations within a single metal-organic framework (MOF) opens new avenues for tuning reactivity, stability, and electronic properties. In particular, MOFs that integrate multiple metal cations within their structures offer a suitable platform for increasing both the chemical and structural complexity of the materials, which can give rise to novel or enhanced properties and behaviors. However, the controlled incorporation of selected combinations of different metal elements remains a major synthetic challenge
