Lecture Topic: Markets and the State – On the Dynamics of the Contemporary Global (Political) Economy
Speaker: Professor Markus Taube
Co-Director, Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr
Time: 10:00 AM, August 29, 2025
Location: Room 419, School of Economics and Management
Abstract:
The structures of the global economy, particularly the economic interactions between China and the West, have undergone significant changes in recent years. This lecture examines the political economy and endogenous forces driving these developments, which have led to the dissolution of the original win-win framework in Sino-Western economic relations. While economic policies previously prioritized promoting development and exchange, "economic statecraft" is now increasingly prominent.
